How to Safely Store Water for Events and Festivals
Trailer Engineering | 22nd September 2020
Events are really fun, but sometimes it can be difficult to remember to stay hydrated. Thankfully, many events and festivals are doing a better job with safely storing water so that attendees can be safe and healthy while jamming out to their favourite musical artists. There has been an increase in the lawful obligations of event and festival organizers to provide drinking water to festival-goers, particularly in the United Kingdom.
The British Standard gave some guidelines stating that drinking water should be provided wherever possible from a mains supply. If there is not a mains supply available, an alternative quality assured water supply should be used. It is required that all water dispensing equipment (such as a drinking water bowser) be cleaned and cared for, an acceptable amount of drinking water supply points should be readily available, the drinking water supply should be easily accessible to catering facilities and water points should be clearly marked and visible.
There are many options to choose from when it comes to storing and supplying water. If you are an event organizer, here are some ways you can safely store water on site of your event or festival.
Storing Water Correctly At Events & Festivals
First, make sure that the ground can withstand the weight of the water bowser or tank, which typically contains 1000 litres of water. It is vital that you fill your drinking water bowser with water from an authorised provider. You also want to make sure that your portable water bowser or tank is in mint condition. It should be cleaned from the inside out. When cleaning, ensure that you only use soapy water to wipe down the exterior of the bowser or tank.
It is recommended that you frequently flush or empty out tanks or lines that are going to store water for a period of time. If your water tanks are being used to store drinking water, you need to make sure that the water is tested every 24 hours. Every time you fill the tank, add in the right dose of chlorine tablets as it can prevent any growth of algae and bacteria.
As a rule of thumb, you do not want your drinking water storage tanks to be stored in temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius, so you should store it in a cool area. Be attentive, checking it daily to make sure there is not any damage to the bowser and tank. You also want to be sure that the lids are secured in place.
